Why Buy Via Guatemala Coffee

WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON QUALITY

In the highlands of Guatemala, our coffee plants take root in volcanic soil unlike anywhere else on earth. At 5,000 feet above sea level, surrounded by 288 volcanic formations, our beans absorb minerals that show up clearly in your morning cup. The steady 72-degree climate lets flavors build naturally without rushing. Our farm workers check each plant by hand, giving the coffee cherries proper time to ripen. This patient approach makes San Marcos beans develop their full body, Antigua beans reveal chocolate undertones, and Lake Atitlan beans offer those bright, zesty notes that coffee lovers seek out. When customers try our collection, they notice right away - this tastes different from store brands.

WE CARE ABOUT WHERE WE SOURCE FROM

Guatemala ranks among the world's top coffee producers, but typical industry practices blend everything together, erasing what makes each region special. We take the opposite path, keeping beans from Antigua, Lake Atitlan, and San Marcos separate to honor their distinct personalities. Big companies buy through middlemen, but we sit at farmers' tables drinking coffee with them, talking about their needs and the next crop. This hands-on connection means we pay our growers 40% above standard rates. It costs a bit more, but the difference shows up clearly in your cup - coffee with a sense of place and purpose, not just caffeine.

WE ARE A MINORITY WOMAN OWNED BUSINESS

Our founder's story begins in Guatemala during its civil war. Born as Silvia DeLeon, she was placed in an orphanage when her mother could no longer keep her safe. After adoption by an American family, she built her life in the US, even spending time on welfare while raising her daughter alone. In 2020, DNA testing reunited her with her Guatemalan relatives - though sadly, her birth mother had already passed away. VIA's journey came full circle when she shook hands with Raphael from LaGuitarra Plantation in 2021, creating our company through a simple handshake rather than corporate contracts. Your beans are roasted the day we ship them, so when you open the bag, that fresh scent hits you immediately.

WE ARE A SMALL FAMILY BUSINESS

Coffee wisdom passes through generations in Guatemala, carrying traditions that big business can't duplicate. The money from your purchase helps farm families like Maria's, whose daughter became the first in their family to attend university. Each coffee bag includes a handcrafted Mayan Worry Doll - a small figure representing an old tradition where children tell their troubles to these dolls before sleep, finding wisdom by morning. This connection to culture matters to us, as does our mission statement to support non-profits helping women and orphans in Guatemala. We're more than coffee sellers - we're building bridges between VIA's two worlds through honest business practices and respect for the land where our beans grow.
